Annie’s Song
“Annie’s Song” was written by the great John Denver, in 1973. Completed in about ten minutes while riding a ski-lift in Colorado, the song was dedicated to Denver’s wife.
Part of the album “Back Home Again”, the song climbed to the #1 spot in the United States and stayed there for two weeks in 1974.
My arrangement of this song is pretty straight forward, with an added middle section that transitions back to the main tune. I wrote it in the key of G Major and made it quite accessible to the intermediate player.
This is one of those songs that I knew for many, many years, even before I spoke English and even before I knew who John Denver was. The simple beauty of the melody and the pleasant harmonic progression makes this one of the most enjoyed, most memorable tunes ever.
If you would like to give this a try on the guitar, feel free to take a look at my HERE. You’ll get a 5-page PDF score with staff notation as well as TAB.
One of my favorite tunes to play on the guitar for sure. I hope you enjoy.
