Away In A Manger - Guitar, Oboe, Bassoon

This is an original arrangement of “Away In A Manger” for Classical Guitar, Oboe, and Bassoon.

Written here in the key of D Major, the Guitar part is set so that the bottom two strings are tuned to G and D. If you ever played a guitar transcription of Albeniz’s “Sevilla”, you’ll be familiar with this tuning.

The piece opens with some broken chords on the guitar with a descending melody on top, while the Oboe and Bassoon play an interchangeable pedal/melody. The Guitar then continues with an ad libidum introduction of the tune, followed by a counterpointal reiteration of the tune by the Oboe and Bassoon. The last four sections feature some variations on the tune, finishing off with a last glimpse of the opening bars of the tune, and ending the piece on an ascending CODA-like conclusion.

Played at the suggested tempo, the entire piece is about 6 minutes long.
